Ishmael Assessment

1. What does the taker's creation myth tell Ishmael about us?

Ishmael gets many different perspectives about us, but when the human begins to tell him the different myths we all know makes him thinks that now day we are all consider takers by the way we lived and our life rut in. We are here for the takers and that our assessors became takers when the beginning of the mythology when the revolutionary of agriculture and we began to crop for ourselves, that takers have been telling us through out the pass generations and that mystery has got to us and we are takers in our own way.

2.
How does the story of Cain and Able reinforce Taker mythology?

That story supports the taker mythology because the brother Cain killed able who was his brother and he was a leaver and Cain after being a taker killed his brother and this is how the mythology of takers continues on in the generations.

3.
What questions does this chapter pose to you about your own understanding of the world?
Are we all takers in life?
Is other species in the world takers and leavers as well?

Quote Respond Ishmael (pg.75)

“In order to become fully human, man had to pull himself out of the slime. And all this is the result. As the takers see it, the gods gave man the same choice they gave Achilles: a brief life of glory or a long, uneventful life in obscurity. And the takers choose a brief life of glory.”

In this quote it made me think a lot about it and I actually went into the deep side of it. I was relating it to a passage that I had read earlier in the chapter before in which gave me a perspective of what this quote meant. It was really making me think that Ishmael was giving a message in this book and his meaning to the quote was relating us the human beans to a gorilla like him. If the humans didn’t have the earth they wouldn’t be able to survive and if the earth was with out us earth wouldn’t insist. Through the years world has turned us really materialistic and we have learned how to live with out materials. What he was trying to say was, he was giving a choice of what humans would actually choose in the world than and animal in earth. Because a big percentage of humans would rather lived fewer years but full of riches and an animal won’t mind un less his happy and warm and has food to eat.

Ishmael

What are the Ishmaels thoughts on how things come to be?
Ishmael’s thoughts were and seemed to be deep and interesting in a way that he wanted to learn a lot from the outside of the captivity that he was in. As he begins to talk to this man he begins to learned things. He learned from the humans but his thoughts bring him to more questions. As he thinks about what the man is telling him his thoughts make him want to learned more stuff because he also wanted to learn about human nature and how this came to be. Most of he’s thoughts were just questionable because as the man and him began to talk they both began to learned from each other. Overall he is learning from his thoughts.

What are you confused by or need clarity on regarding the text?
I enjoyed chapter three with not a bit of a problem. In that chapter I got a well understood of how this man and gorilla began a conversation like this. I learned to see the different perspectives of each one. I got a bit of confusion in chapter four because through out my reading when I read a small passage may me go back and kind of paused for a second and think about it. This text seemed a little difficult to understand at first but after having a well understanding of each chapter and getting to know this I got a good understanding.

Exhibition Night Reflection

Exhibition Night was all about presenting our guests and greeting all the parents and family. It was more of a formal night, since I had attended to the middle we had exhibition night but it’s a lot more different and it was more of a strict professional night. We were to present our more recently project we had done and explaining our process and meaning trough out this project based on our learning. We had a lot of positive feed back and we well worked with our partners for each project. In my team the Mohr/ Golub our exhibition night was filled with art and writing process in the class of humanities and in the math/physics classroom was all about photography, ringing bells, life-size DNA. We were to have different visuals of our photographs and completed camera. Exhibition night was very interesting because not only did we show the final products of our projects, but we explain to them and showed our audience our final products in progress. Overall I though that my first, and freshman year of exhibition night was a very successful and educational because I learned from my peers as much as they did from me. I could say at first I was quite nervous thinking it was going to be difficult, however once we stared my partner and I well discussed our material well within the math-physics portion of our exhibition. Our group did very well with our audience and we provided them with significant information and presented our projects with pride. I was to well interact with my audience about the content of my graphic novel and I had very interesting and engaging conversations with my audience. I was mainly confident when talking about the material however I just a bit nervous at some point when discussing the projects. This is definitely something that I would like to change and do differently next time, because there would be no point in talking about something if your audience doesn’t understand you. Overall I enjoyed exhibition night and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for us next year and the years to come.

Story Synopsis

Many people have different dreams and they try to reach them threw out the course of live. Jamaal was one of them, Aisha is his younger sister and she going to be my narrator trough out the novel telling how Jamaal her brother is one them.
Jamaal was an eighth teen years old guy perfect to be able to come to the United States and began by starting out doing college and finished up going to a good university. He was a really handsome guy out of a good and wealth family in Afghanistan. Jamaal total life changes after he has reached the American dream, witch was being able to come to the United States to his uncle
Omar is a thirty-five year old Afghanistan living in the United States like any other citizen living the American life. Through out the years and distance, Omar always kept in touch with his small family located in Afghanistan. He had always wanted to bring his nephew Jamaal out of Afghanistan which he did. He first stared out by going to an office of immigration and he request an immigration form by asking/requesting his nephew Jamaal who lives in Afghanistan. Three months later Jamaal reaches a letter from Immigration and its letting him know he has an appointment with the United States embassy in Afghanistan in where he has to attend and has to go with his parents for an interview. After fulfilling these requirements they look forward to a new appointment for fingerprints and photos and it took them about four to six weeks. Once those weeks had passed he had been cited to the United States embassy in Afghanistan in where they notify his visa and had been approved for him to be now able to travel in and out of the united States.
· Once he is living in the United States he receives in the mail his official resident visa in where he could be living in the United States.
Jamaal’s parents were a good married couple in which it was Freshta the mother and the father Omed, both parents of Jamaal and Aisha’s. Freshta was the home stayed mother that happily raised two wonderful kids of hers. Trough the years that her son grew and took the choice to move to United States, Freshta life changes a lot. The issue begins since she wasn’t happy with her son Jamaal moving there. But Jamaal wanted to reach that method or goal and he as well had he’s uncle Omar that lived their. Omar and Jamaal had this huge connection as good friends and as family members (nephew to uncle) and Omar really wanted to bring him to give this big opportunity to Jamaal. Omed the father was okay with his son’s decision and proud like any father. He just recommended Omar to be like a parent/guardian up in the United States.
Omar relationship with the parents (mom Freshta or the father Omed)

Once Jamaal had been all set, and that he was being able to enter to the United States legally after going through a pretty long process. Well the uncle Omar bought the airline ticket and had him all set to flight here. For Jamaal Leaving all his friends and family was pretty hard thing one of the big parts was leaving his hometown. He just would just imagine how his reaction will be when he will see how different was to where he was arriving that to his hometown. At the same time he had many excitements just how it was so surprising for him to see how he actually got to where he was and had reached that goal. It was his first time getting on to a plane as well he was pretty exited but at the same time nervous.
His itinerary was leaving from Kabul Afghanistan in where he was located and departing to Delhi and from Delhi to Newark and finally arriving to Boston. The total of duration was eighteen hours and fifteen minutes and he went on three different planes. He had this amazing experience that he got with going on a plane for his first time and going across to the new world.
His reactions when he arrived to Boston he felt kind of weird and strange. He began to noticed all the differences
(Languages, politics, religions ext.)
Omar gratefully and happily made him so welcomed and happy. He showed him trough out the city and taught many differences and rules according to the new city for him. One of the good benefits that he had and helped him a lot was that he knew the English language pretty well, after taking two straight years of it when he attended to school in Afghanistan.

After two successful years of college that Jamaal had done, he decides on moving to one of the best universities in Los Angeles. Jamaal was all set to leave to Los Angeles on September 11th 2001, and that morning his uncle Omar was dropping him off to the airport and saw him leaving in the 11 flight of American airlines.
In the historical content of the U.S.A the plane went down on the world trade center after being hijacked by terrorist. Jamaal takes place in this same plane in which was the biggest climax trough out the novel because is where Jamaal’s dies.

The world was known with the wide history that accrued in the U.S.A. The wars in Afghanistan begin and it was launched by the U.S.A and United Kingdom in response to September 11 2001. The United States runs with the Guantanamo Bay Prison which is located in Cuba. The United States military had many detainees held have been classified by the United States as enemy combatants. In the beginning of the war they started out with bringing 7725 detainees to Guantanamo, after a while 420 of which have been released. Approximately 355 detainees remain and in those 355 detainees Jamal’s and Aisha parents (Omed and Freshta) where detain for being blame of being accomplice of terrorists.
Many months had passed and Omed and Freshta were still detained because the U.S. officials were finding places to send them, according to officials and defense lawyers.

This affected Aisha a lot and she is now telling her life story.

Persepolis

In the book Persepolis it showed me a lot of meaning about the revolution, and focusing in the Middle Eastern way of life. This book was an autobiography book written by Marjane Satrap who tells her story of childhood in Iran. This was where she was born, lived and went trough the Iran and Iraq war and partly the Iranian revolution. Towards reading the book I noticed that she lived trough many different stages of live. Around the year 1980 she was attending a school that was none secular. Her family and MarJi’s were always different with the tradition of their country requirements and religions. This was the cause of marJi’s parents sending her to Austria to further her education. Her parents couldn't be veritable and discreetly from getting things into their country Iran. During the time there was an embargo with Iran and they had smuggled things into the country which was a crime.
Later on when the U.S. Embassy was occupied by fundamentalist, the Iran-Iraq war started. Iran was really upset and wanted to beat Iraq and in most schools they began to encourage all these young boys. They technically brain washed them and all these boys were being drafted in the Iran army, becoming martyrs. This was one of the biggest effects in the country because a lot of moms where suffering by having their kids being send to the war. MarJi’s maid was one of them because her fourteen year old kid had been told that the key that he was given was for the entrance of paradise. Afterwards Iran and Iraq were in war had a reservoir of all potential soldiers waiting, oil and more stuff. The Iranian government decadent denied peace with Iraq because it was deserved. Her parents were clandestine because they had attended to parties with alcohol and they fear to be caught because alcohol was one of the majority things that were illegal during the revolution. MarJi’s was to explain what the ancient world believed Black Friday as. Many people who were demonstrating were massacred but, all these people were proletariat.
Personally I think that when MarJi’s was sent to Vienna many cool things happen to her and it was a good benefit that she took and see how she is really thankful of her parents. She goes out of her country but keeps educating her self. Where she learned many things and discovers her passion to be in her future. She studied in many different countries and that’s where she gets an idea of creating an autobiography but her dream was to hit the states. After a while comes back to Vienna where she lived and begins on writing her autobiography of her youth. Her images where just realistic since she lived trough it she knew their feelings and faces expressions. Once her book was done impacts publishers directors everything which becomes really globalizes all over and gets to the United States. After completing the book and while the reading it Persepolis was a fantastic realistic book it really did impacted me since it had the meaning of a truth story. I like the fact how the images go with the text and the text with the images like both have to be combined because with out one of them the text wouldn’t be understandable. There was a lot of times where I will put my self into the character shoes to have the connection with her through out her text that I did enjoy as a piece of lesson.

My Socratic Seminar Reflection

The seminar we had today was good because my classmate’s girls brought out all their ideas and we contributed from one other. My classmate Emily was leading up our seminar. We were all on task and had our article well annotated and were working on staying focused on to the text. This time my group improved and worked on controlling the conversation better not interrupting and everyone in our group had a chance to speak and stop one person from dominating.I will consider my self one of the quiet’s but we all try in bringing those good ideas and comments we taught not all students are to learn in the same in the same procedure but we all did to keep this seminar conversation floating As the conversation got going more people got passionately involved in the heated conversation which led to a great learning experience. My group of all girls we should just work a bit more on staying on the text even though we loved to go to the side of the conversation. The text of the article really helped us argue and learn the whole concept of voting at sixteen. The author had like all these extremely good ideas and I think that some of the ideas proposed in this text were very good. A good point that Emily brought to the seminar was that how could we a 16 year old be with a credit card instead of having the right to vote and it was a good point that was discuss because that’s the age where most get their license work and enough responsibility but are still in school. This was one of the good seminars specially that we were being film but working in our errors but little by little were improving.

Youth Voting vocab

While reading this article I noticed that many of all youth will now have interest and the intentions of now voting since them a big percentage of youth like Obama speeches and ideas. Since the year 1972 18 years olds and up been suffrage, first time that the youth was allowed to vote. Now days seems like didn’t matter as much into politics but when 9/11 happen it was a big increase. Other thing I taught was that their might be often young people that go with being a liberal party meaning that there aren’t either democrat or republican. That also well involve at all people who are Evangelical and have their own believes which we should respect and liberal’s aren’t allowed in the religion. Now all constituents are noticing that Obama might be with a majority of votes. For now seems that the democrats are taking the lead and the progressive of the democrat party is trying to do all the better conditions to have more benefits for there political party. It was sure going to increase the youth voters since Obama is a young president and got many good and young ideas that the most of all youth will agree with him. After these elections it will seem like the youth will be the conservative.

My experience debating issues and researching

Throughout the beginning of this project my class and I were representing the Republican Party, as if my group and I was John McCain. We had to have a lead advisor in our group who was our leader and we individually were to choose an issue. I was to choose the Education Reform issue. I began to research in John McCain’s website and all different sources, and specially news. In my research I took all these good notes and facts because we were to have a debate and I was to go against the other two candidates and disusing the same issue. Trough out the first part of the project I enjoyed it and I was to experience within the procedure of the project because this is a thing in politics that we will live in the real life.
